Hello, hello, hello, what’s going on ‘ere then? The Phantom Butt Bigger-Upper has struck again!
And this time, unlike the previous occasion, I know the identity of the victims. The model is Stephanie photographed by Creative Rehab.
And he’s not very happy about it. The following was posted on tumblr with the hash tag idiots:
Ok, not cool. It’s bad enough that people post my photos without credit, but now I’m seeing altered versions of them? C’mon…
On the left is the original. On the right is one that has been floating around. Thank you Demystification for pointing this out to me.
And to whomever is doing this stuff, please stop it. You’re not doing yourself, the artists or the subjects any favors
But does he have a right to be so offended? Is he really a victim or has he simply been hoist by his own petard? After all there’s hardly a picture on his site that hasn’t been manipulated and edited in some way. Why shouldn’t someone else come along and say, “No, I think it should look like this”?
I’m not saying that I prefer the larger butt version. My point is that it has as much artistic validity as the “original”. In fact, nude photographs on the internet are never originals. They’ve all been edited, often crudely in a way that spoils rather than improves the image, and it never gets acknowledged or explained.
This photographer is by no means the worst offender but in Stephanie’s case, an area of deep shade has been added to her lower back and her spine, ribs and coccyx have been messed around with. Who is to say he didn’t shave a few millimetres off her arse and thighs too?
Perhaps the Phantom photo shopper is campaigning for healthy models? Perhaps he’s against the arrogant and misguided use of editing software? Perhaps he’s just got too much time on his hands. Perhaps it isn’t a he at all but a she?
Either way, I think they have every right to ply their trade without being called an idiot because, if they are, then so are 99.9 % of nude photographers on the internet.
